nature in tension

 

An unbuilt design proposal done in 2014 in collaboration with Emily O'Loughlin for a spiritual retreat located deep in the northern tract of Shenandoah National Park in Rileyville, Virginia. Using hypermodernist precedents such as the Archigram and Tatlin’s Tower, this project aimed to examine the disconnect between man and nature as well as man and the divine via an engagement with a unique set of experiences along a spiraling pathway descending one hundred feet from the forest canopy down into the rocky earth of the mountainside.
